Fin MacDiarmada, a former student at Elphin Community College, took photos of Elphin in Scotland back in 2022. The rural Scottish village is located in the country’s famous Highlands in the north-west of the country. Sean and Julia Neary got in touch with our Elphin Notes correspondent to say there was a town twinning of sorts 43 years ago when exchange visits took place between the North Roscommon town and its namesake in Scotland. When Scottish representatives came to Elphin, they were presented with a stoneware plate inscribed in Scottish Gaelic which transcribes as “greetings from Elphin Scotland to Elphin Ireland”.
